More Than Words by Karla Doyle

**  4 out of 5 Steamy Stars **

A brutal mugging two years ago left Calli terrified to go out after dark, and incapable of real dating. Hanging out with a resentful Chihuahua every night hasn’t filled the void, and all the sex toys from the store she owns could never replace a flesh-and-blood man. An online Scrabble site promising anonymous, flirty fun sounds like just the ticket. A like-minded geek, that’s what she needs. Unbeknownst to her, the man on the other end of the game is anything but geeky.

Tired of the party scene, Travis seeks a venue where he can meet a woman who is drawn to his mind, not his profession. Having women chase after his bad-boy musician persona has grown stale. After heating up the tiles online with Calli, he knows he must meet her in person. Touch her in person. And when he does, their chemistry is undeniable. She stimulates him, mind and body. But when he discovers her tragic past he realizes it will take more than words to win her heart…and her trust.

This book was a good one.  There was quite a bit of drama.  It had an easy writing style and both characters were likable and relate-able.  I was wrapped up in the story the entire read.  It drug in parts but was still enough to keep me interested.  This book was hot.  There is so much sex it’s not even funny and it’s all hot and heavy.  At one point I was almost wishing there was less sex and more relationship.  I have a new appreciation for Scrabble.

Calli owns a “romance store” and lives in the apartment above it.  Where I’m from we just call them sex shops but ok.  She hasn't been outside after dark in 2 years.  She was attacked by a mugger who was never caught and has some serious anxiety coming from it.  She hasn't dated in just as long.  She’s lonely but doesn't trust easily.  She’s a beautiful girl but doesn't know it.  She thinks of herself as plain next to her sister.  She’s shy and quiet until she goes online and then she becomes very outspoken.

Travis is a rock star.  He’s tired of that lifestyle and the women who come with it.  He wants a woman who actually has a brain.  He beautiful, built, and smart.  He has tattoos but every one of them are covered.  That’s about unheard of.  He has a way of screwing everything up without meaning to but he has a lot of redeeming qualities.

Let me go ahead and apologize now if I happen to write Travis and Abby instead of Travis and Calli.  Honestly there isn't but one Travis for me so I’m having issues with it ;)

Travis and Calli meet in a game room online.  It’s like a social site where you play board games.  Let me just tell you now, after reading the conversations between these two it makes me want to go play Scrabble with my husband.  This is book is HOT!  Hot as in it will set your kindle on fire.  After one conversation he decides he’s got to meet her.   She gave him very little to go on but it was enough to track her down.

At the first meeting he mistakes his internet girl for Calli’s sister and takes her for coffee.  He realizes rather quickly that he’s got the wrong girl.  After spending the night online with Calli again he shows up the next day and Calli realizes that it’s the same guy from the night before.  He introduces himself but she sends him away.  They somehow end up chatting again later that night and he goes to her apartment.  Over a very not so innocent game of scrabble (the entire reason I want to play their version of this game with my husband) things get hot and heavy in a hurry.  They end up in her bedroom.

Something happens to her dog and it needs to be taken to an emergency clinic.  Travis figures out in a hurry that something is off about Calli.  The dog is in pain and she refuses to leave the apartment.  He’s kind of ugly with her but takes the dog to the vet for her.  When he comes back he apologizes and lets her know that he wants to get to know her so they end up talking the rest of the night.
He didn't need a woman with baggage. Didn't have time for a relationship that had project written all over it. Yet when she opened the door with a huge, genuine smile on her face, he knew he’d just signed on for the job.

It turns out that the night she was attacked the guy beat her up pretty good and tried to rape her.  She’s living with a very real fear of leaving her apartment after dark.  Travis is being very understanding and holding her very supportive as she tells her story.

“Nobody, and I mean nobody, is going to hurt you while I’m around.”

His first attempt to help her is a bust.  He just suggested that she go out with him to take out the dog, assuring her that she would be safe.  She got upset and kicked him out.  The second attempt wasn't any better.  He wanted her to come to his show and watch him play.  She wanted to but couldn't.  He picked her up and carried her outside.  She almost had a panic attack and when he asked her to trust him she yelled at him.  She told him she didn't want to trust him.  This time he walked away.  She hurt him pretty bad with her words.  Now he feels like she doesn't care about him and she doesn't want him.

In his drunken and hurt state he almost messes up big time.  At his show he ends up backstage with some groupie with her mouth about to go places it shouldn't.  He realizes at the last moment what he’s doing and stops it.  She had been sending him texts in the mean time trying to explain that she did trust him and that all she meant was she didn't want to look around.  Now he’s got an issue on his hands with what happened in the bar.

He meets her the following night to apparently break up with her, he’s just doing it without coming out and saying it.  After she pretty much has a breakdown, he walks away from her again.
The one good thing about her break up is that she gets mad.  She is so mad that she’s determined she is gonna fight her fear regardless.  You know what they say, A woman scorned…  She’s made enough that she’s taking her life back.

They both are checking the online site to see if the other is on.  She catches him online one night and sends him a game request and he accepts.  They start talking about his friend Tom coming to fix her door and he realizes that Tom isn't who came at all.  He’s trying to get her to answer him and she’s not responding so he’s freaking out.  He’s throwing his cloths on and leaving his house.  Gotta get to his girl and all J

When he gets to the apartment it’s locked up tight but he can hear the dog barking and then he hears her scream.  He takes out the window trying to get to her.  I’m pretty sure he’s gonna kill who ever is after her.  He’s out for blood.  He heads up the stairs and finds the guy about to rape her.  He goes crazy and starts beating the guy to death with every intention of killing him.

He wakes up later in the hospital, not sure why, with Callie standing over him.  He’s in a blind rage again ready to kill the guy.  He tells her he’s in love with her too.  Great timing there buddy J  He also informs her that she needs to get into the bed with him so he can demonstrate that he’s going to be fine.  One thing about hospitals…GOOD drugs.  The guy was stoned out of his head.  They end up having sex in the hospital bed and getting caught.  Not surprising since they can’t keep their hands off each other.

As it turns out, the guy who broke into her apartment is also the same guy that mugged her 2 years ago.  She finds this out after leaving the hospital.  She left that hospital without speaking to Travis again and hasn't spoken to him since.  She has the stupidest reasons I've ever seen.  It’s been weeks and now the texts have stopped.  He’s been replaced in the band because of injury's to his hand.  She thinks he will resent her so she’s stopped seeing him.   What I don’t understand is how she’s got a date with another man.  That’s messed up.  This man is coming to her apartment.  Travis isn't gone by his own wishes and she’s already dating again.  That’s messed up.  I lost respect for her here…big time.

Travis’ point of view comes in 2 months later.  We see that he thinks it’s his fault they aren't together.  He’s hurting and trying not to call her every 5 minutes.  He thought the hospital was a new beginning and that it would be a memory to share years down the road.  This alone makes me hate her even more at the moment.  In my opinion I think she’s a coward.  He calls her in a moment of weakness and hears a guys voice in the background.  He gets mad and I don’t blame him.  I’m mad for him!  Why did she even bother to answer the phone if she had another man in her apartment…that’s just cruel!

Her and her sister go out for a valentine’s dinner and her sister tells her that she loves her and she’d do anything for her, then tells her to remember that.  What her sister didn't inform her was that Travis would be playing at the restaurant that she was taking her to.  He sings the song he wrote about her and tells the entire room it belongs to her and so does his heart.  After her sister makes a scene he comes off stage and pulls her to him and kisses her senseless.  He ends up taking her to his apartment where they make up and get back together.

There’s an epilogue.  She has an online date with him after work because he’s in the process of signing a contract for his music out of town.  He surprises her by sneaking in on her.  He asks her to marry him and she says yes.

This is a cute little story.  It’s longer than I thought it would be and I enjoyed it.  I would recommend it to anyone who loves a tattooed rock star.  The only thing that really bothered me was her after their break up and how fast she moved on, even if the guy was just a filler.  I give it 4 Stars.
