Collide by Juliana Stone

A second chance never looked so good...

Bobbi-Jo Barker has been in love with the wrong man for years.  A man who doesn't fit into the perfect, controlled life she's created.  A man who not only broke her heart but nearly destroyed her.  So the fact that he's back in town shouldn't matter because he's all wrong for her, or so she thinks...

Shane Gallagher, prodigal son, ex-con, and all around hellion, has returned to the small town of New Waterford to mend fences and get his life back.  What he doesn't count on are the feelings he still has for the one woman who can break him--the one woman who is totally wrong for him.

And yet, as Bobbi and Shane are thrown together and begin to navigate a life with each other in it, neither can deny the attraction they feel or the emotions that come with it--the good and the bad.  And so the question becomes...can these two damaged souls survive a second chance at love?

This was an easy and quick read...fluff reading.  It's a second chance love story for two people who should have never been a part to begin with.  There are secrets and lies dealing with a horrible break up that need to come to light.  They have to learn how to have a healthy happy relationship instead of the volatile one they had a few years ago.  The characters are easy to get to know and easy to like.  The plot is easy to follow and there isn't a whole lot of drama involved.  Over all it was a sweet book with the HEA I was promised.  I enjoyed it.

Bobbi Jo is 25.  She has brown hair and blue eyes.  She's sleek, modern and has a straight forward attitude...it's also about as fake as it can get.  Underneath all the crap she's feisty, mouthy, and has the mouth of a sailor.  She's engaged to a man she doesn't love and is preparing for life she doesn't want because it's the safe path to take.  She's still in love with the only boy who has ever owned her heart but a relationship with him isn't possible.

Shane is 30.  He's an ex-con who spent 3 years in prison for some stupid mistakes.  He's tall, dark and handsome with brown hair and brown eyes.  He's 6'4 and tattooed.  He works in a shop owned by his buddy building custom bikes.  He paints and makes home made furniture in his spare time.  He is trying to get his life on track and forget the only girl he's ever loved.  Knowing he can never have her, he does everything he can to avoid her after he moves back to town.

Bobbi and Shane were together when they were younger for about 2 years.  They were desperately in love and worshiped the ground the other walked on.   They were also like fire and ice.  The relationship was as bad as it was good.  In the end they said some things and did some things to hurt the other that caused them to split and spend wasted time apart that never should have happened in the first place.

We first meet Bobbi as she's freaking out about her wedding.  She's about to marry a man that she doesn't love.  She gets to the church and can't get out of the car.  Her grandfather pulls away from the church and they leave the groom and all the guests waiting inside.  There will be no wedding today.

Shane is drinking in a bar an hour outside of town trying to not think about the fact that the only woman he has ever loved is getting married as he sits there and drowns his sorrows.  Imagine his surprise when a woman wearing a wedding dress comes barging in the bar demanding alcohol...he's even more surprised when he realizes it's Bobbi.  He stays hidden in a dark corner while she makes a complete spectacle of herself.  She's drinking, being loud, and drinking some more.  The bar tender is looking from her to Shane knowing trouble is blooming but she can't see him in the darkness.  She decides to dance and when a guy comes up behind her and grabs her refusing to let go Shane makes his presence known.  The bartender tell them to leave so he takes her home.  When they arrive the man she left at the alter is there so he takes her to his house instead.

"I think you need to take a break."
"Am I causing trouble?"
"Not yet you aren't but now that I know exactly who you are I'm figuring trouble is on the way if it's not here already."

There is still a huge connection between them but she still considers herself engaged and makes the decision to try and fix things with him.  Of course by the next afternoon the entire town knows about the botched wedding and who she spent the night with.  He ex wants nothing to do with her aside from getting the ring back.  That relationship is over.

They have all these feeling swirling around them but the break up was a bad one...a really bad one.  Shane is still really angry with her and she's scared of what she feels for him.  He keeps talking about how she broke him and how he broke her.  When they show up in town together where ever that may be the entire town runs scared.  You can tell these two used to be a force to be reckoned with at one time.  Trouble with a capital T.  She's decides at a bar she's at with him and all of their friends that she wants him.  She propositions him and it makes him mad but not enough to stop him from taking her home and spending the rest of the night wrapped up in each other in bed.

A week passes and when they talk they come up with this crazy plan that they are going to have a purely sexual relationship with no strings and no emotions involved.  Just let me say that anybody who actually believes this is possible is an idiot.  You can't have a purely sexual relationship with someone you were in a serious relationship with for 2 years...especially if you're still in love with him.  Stupid idea.  All of this comes about because he's strung tight and frustrated because she didn't stay the previous night they slept together.  No feeling huh?  He's even jealous when he sees her talking to other men.  The reason she thinks this will work is because she's keeping a huge secret from him concerning their break up and thinks he will hate her once he knows the truth.  With this decided they are officially playing with fire, someone is going to crash and burn.   The question is...who is going up in flames first?  Will it be him or will it be her?

They spend a night together just hanging out with friends and end up in a hot tub and then the snow in which she whispers I love you.  He set up the whole sexual relationship thing as a ploy to get her back.  He doesn't just want her for sex, he wants everything.  He wants her in his bed, in his house and in his life.

So the question was...if he knew the truth--if he knew what she'd done--would there be a Shane and Bobbi?

We find out that the break up these two went through is the reason he went off the deep end.  His grandfather put him in jail because it was that or death.  He spent 3 years in prison for a whole bunch of stuff and it saved his life and caused him to realize he needed to change.  She realizes she's in love with him and knows it's time to come clean about everything.  He tells her he loves her and then she takes off without telling him which leaves him all kinds of messed up.  The morning he is to meet her for Easter dinner he finds a pregnancy test in the garbage.  It's positive and he freaks out.  He goes to the dinner and they fight in front of everyone.  She throws a glass of wine in his face and then he throws the pregnancy test on the table and lays into her about it.  Her sister tells him it's her's and not Bobbi's and instead of fixing things with her he just leaves.   He returns later that night to fix things and take her home.  She finally tells him everything...

The break up...

She was pregnant and she didn't want to have the baby.  She told him she was going to have an abortion and he blew up.  She got to the clinic but she couldn't go through with it.  She and Shane haven't spoken in over a month when she goes to the clinic.  She goes to find him to tell him she's keeping the baby and finds him in bed with one of her friends.  He did this because he wanted to hurt her as bad as she had hurt him.  He couldn't actually go through with it but the intent was there and he planned on doing it until she walks in.  She tells him the baby isn't his and walks away.  After that they don't speak for several years because he goes to prison very soon after that.  She miscarries the baby a month later.

The truth about the break up...
1.  She told him she was getting an abortion and didn't but never actually told him she didn't do it.
2.  She lied and told him the baby wasn't his when it really was so she had to fix that
3.  She can no longer have children

She thinks he's going to be angry but he's not.  He's just sorry he wasn't there for her when he should have been.  He kisses her and tells her he loves her.  He also tells her they need to let go of the past.  He's going to take her home where it will officially be permanent.  She will not be saying she's tired and staying at her dad's house.  She will be with him full time, living with him and sleeping beside him every night forever.

"I want to be your home, Bobbi.  I want to be your everything."

Like I said, this was a quick and easy read.  I read it in one sitting and I enjoyed it.  There is no drama.  Even telling him the truth was anti-climatic.  They get their HEA and we leave the book feeling happy and content.  I give it 4 Stars.  I would recommend it if you're looking for something light on the heart and a quick read.
