Defying the Odds by Kele Moon

** 2 out of 5 Stars **

**WARNING:  SPOILERS AHEAD**

When struggling waitress Melody Dylan gives a handsome, lonely stranger a simple gift she has no clue her life is about to take a drastic turn.

The stranger ends up being Clay Powers, a famous UFC heavyweight fighter. Clay’s large build and dangerous fists have always intimidated. People in his hometown keep their distance and Clay is fine with that. Everything changes when a new waitress at the local diner buys him a piece of pie on thanksgiving. Touched by the gesture when it’s obvious she can barely afford to survive, her warm smile and lush body churn up powerful feelings that leave Clay wanting more from her than pie.

Melody is running from her past and the small, country town of Garnet is the perfect hiding place. With an ex-husband after her and scars from her abusive marriage etched deep, the last thing she expects is to fall for a man who makes a living with his fists, but she can’t resist Clay or the tender connection they share.

Finding love in the most unlikely of places, the passion is undeniable, but Clay and Melody know their haunted pasts and unpredictable futures leave the odds stacked against them.

I was looking forward to this book.  I read all the positive reviews and I thought, "Great!  Here's a quick read that I'll enjoy."  Ummm...not so much.  Honestly, I HATED the writing style.  The way the characters talked drove me nuts.  I get it...southern slang.  Look, I'm from Alabama.  Born and bread here.  I live in a little hick town by the water.  Down here southern is a state of mind.  But I mean come on!  They were even to southern for me.  We don't all talk like that!  We do say ya'll and stuff but not to this extent.  The story was ok.  I felt like I connected with Melody because we had in depth background but I didn't get the same vibe from Clay.  I honestly got to about the 50% mark and just skimmed through most of it.

Clay is a UFC fighter, the best.  Has several national titles.  He makes his money by beating the crap out of other people.  He's strong and passionate.  He's in great shape and he's just a big guy.

Melody is a waitress at the diner he eats at in his hometown.  She just moved to town.  She is running from an abusive ex husband and has serious trust issues with men.  She small and blonde.

She offers him a piece of pie on Thanksgiving because he's eating alone and we start with their story.  It moves pretty fast.  They are very flirty and they talk at the diner.  He is there every day that she works.  After an issue with her car he ends up taking her home.  The sleep together and all is right with the world.  Within 12 hours of the sex she realizes she's in love with him (have they known each other longer than a week?), recieves a foreclosure notice that sends her into a panic about her ex husband, tells Clay she can't see him anymore and then proceeds to cut all contact.  Yeah...all of this within 12 hours.

Anyway, Clay has a huge fight coming up and he can't get his head or heart into the game because he is miserable without her.  He's as much in love with her as she is with him.  His best friends make a move and talk Melody into coming with them to the fight even after she flat out refused when Clay asked her.  He won the fight when he realized she was there.  Of course this gave her national attention because she is after all the girlfriend of a UFC National Champion.

Care to guess what happens next?  Yep, you guessed it.  Her ex finds out where she is and comes after her. He fully intends to drag her out of the hotel but the guy Clay had his fight with steps in and intervenes and saving her life.  Her ex has a gun and at one point Clay shows up and charges the guy (yeah charge a guy with a gun...really smart, that one) and he's shot.  It's not serious though, it's a through and through shot.  He still somehow manages to beat the guy within an inch of his life though.

The book ends with the ex in the hospital headed for jail.  Clay has moved into Melody's house and they are talking about doing a few more fights to start a charity for abused women.

Overall this story did have a good plot.  I just had trouble getting it to hold my attention.  Mainly because I couldn't stand the way they talked and because the timeline for falling in love just wasn't realistic to me.  If you want a quick read that has very little drama and a happy ending then this is the book for you.

I hate leaving negative reviews because I know the author spent a great deal of time and effort on it.  This book just didn't do it for me.  If it had been a freebie then maybe I wouldn't be as upset but since I paid for it i'm disappointed.

Here are my Clay and Melody

Brother's Keeper by Elizabeth Finn

** 5 AMAZING/INTRIGUING/MIND BLOWING STARS!!!**

**WARNING:  HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD**

Trapped in a web of hate with no escape, a young woman discovers her attraction to the man determined to protect her may be her undoing. Will time run out, or will he find a way to protect her before her abusive father kills her?

When Rowan is awarded a ballet scholarship to Michigan State University during her senior year of high school, her life’s dream is finally realized. Having lost her mother at an early age and being subjected to the abuse of a destitute drunken father, she has known unimaginable loss and heartache and been left wanting for a better life—a life now within her grasp. But with one ill-fated phone call, her life is turned upside down.

Logan is Rowan's best friend’s older brother whose career is taking off as he prepares to graduate law school and move cross-country to the prestigious law firm that has offered him a very lucrative contract. When Rowan finds herself at Logan’s mercy after he inadvertently learns of the abuse she has suffered at the hands of her father, their lives become intertwined in a way neither ever imagined nor wanted.

In an effort to protect her, but with his own hands tied by her unwillingness to report the abuse, Logan strikes a deal requiring Rowan to stay with him whenever there is a chance her father might be on a drunken binge—which is often. For her agreement and cooperation, he will keep her secret. Soon, their time together weighs on them both, and they find themselves constantly tempted to step outside the bounds of their supposed platonic relationship. But there is no point. The devastating fact of the matter is their lives are moving in opposite directions—a relationship destined to die before it even has a chance to live.

The ever present clock plagues them both as it ticks off the days until they are parted. But one all important question remains—after he leaves, how will he protect her from a father intent on hating her until the day he dies … or the day he kills her?

Wow oh wow!  This was the best book!  It started out great and I was pulled into the pages within the first 2 chapters.  I felt what they were feeling...every last emotion.  I couldn't put it down.  My house has seriously suffered today LOL.  The book did drag at parts but not enough to even matter.  There is a ton of steamy love scenes and let me tell you they are hot!!  I loved the writing style.  I loved the way the author made you connect with the hero and heroine.  She is an amazing author!

Rowan is 17 when we meet her.  She comes from a very poor background.  Her mother was killed in a car accident when she was very young and she was forced to move in with her father.  He is a horrible man who spins his time at the bottom of a bottle.  He is a violent drunk who has been abusing Rowan since she was little.  Her best friend's family have always sort of looked at her as an adopted daughter and made sure she has always had the things she needs.  They support her dance dreams and because of their financial support she is able to receive a ballet scholarship when she finishes high school.

Logan is Rowan's best friend's brother.  He is 24 when we meet him and finishing his final year of law school.  He is set on the path he has chosen for himself.  A path that will move him half way across the country upon graduation.  He is a controlling and possessive alpha male but at the same time when he falls he falls hard.

Rowan has a rather nasty run in with her father and in her usual way of escaping runs from the house and calls her friend Sara.  Sara isn't home and she ends up getting Logan instead.  He demands to know where she is and comes to pick her up.  He cleans up her cuts and bruises and puts her to bed.  The next day they make a deal against his better judgement.  For his silence she has to stay with him whenever she sees her father is at a bar drinking.  She agrees and we start on our journey.  We see right away that he no longer views her as his "little sister" and begins fighting his feelings for her in the very beginning.  The go on like this for months.  He never touches her until after she has turned 18 even though her desperately wants to.  When he finally gives into temptation  he refuse to have sex with her so they spend months doing everything but the full act itself all the while falling head over heels for each other.

She doesn't come home one night when he knows she should and he goes to find her.  He walks in with her on the floor with her father attacking her.  Once he gets her out of the house he demands that she move in with him permanently.  She agrees.

The problem with their relationship is that they are both headed in two very separate directions.  He has signed a contract to move that he can't get out of and she has a scholarship she can't leave behind.  They continue their relationship knowing that it will end but neither being able to stop it from progressing.  She does break it off when he refuses to sleep with her one time to many.  It just about kills both of them to be apart but they somehow manage to stay away from each other until his last night in town.

He takes her out one last time because he can't bare to leave her with the way things are at this point.  They both know that they are in love with each other at this point.  He gives into her final plea and makes love to her on their last night together.  He wakes up the next morning to find her gone.  He is heartbroken just as she is but he leaves to start his new life.  They are both miserable.  It's to the point that they are both running on autopilot and it's just not getting any better.  He has to fight the urge to call her and she is doing everything she can to keep busy so she doesn't have to think about him.  It's a good diversion but we all know how it is in the wee hours of the night with nothing to stop the thoughts from coming.

“I whisper every word she needs to hear and I need to say. I tell her how beautiful she is. I tell her she amazes me. I make sure she knows she is the most precious person in the world to me. I make sure she understands what losing her means to me and how impossible it is to imagine my life without her.”

She has to return to her father's house to get something for school and he comes home and finds her there.  He attacks her and just about kills her.  It's to the point that they have to do emergency surgery to stop the internal bleeding and she's put into ICU.  Logan flies home as soon as his mom calls and spends 2 hours alone in the room with her and comes out crying.

“There is no denying I’m once again complete in her presence. This is my place. I belong to her and my place is by her side. And the absoluteness of that statement is profound, and it begs to rewrite my life.”

“She’s beautiful—broken and battered, still the most beautiful woman in the world to me—the only woman in the world for me.”

It's at that point he makes the decision that he can't be away from her.  He makes some calls and disappears to Detroit for several days then returns to Colorado the following morning.   She is heartbroken when he has to leave her again.  He doesn't return for weeks and she's all but given up hope and begun preparing to move to college.

When he returns he has told his family about them and he takes her to a house in Detroit and tells her that it's his house.  She realizes what he's done.  He has given up his dream to come home to be with her.

“You don’t owe me forever right now, but God, I hope you’ll give it to me willingly some day.”

I loved the epilogue.  We find out that he married her a year later and they moved back to Colorado when she finished school.  She's pregnant with his baby and they are happily married.

It's such a sweet book and you can't help but fall in love with both of them.  I hated her father.  He's a horrible man and I would like to have known what happened to him for the horrible things he did to her.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great love story with a HEA that's amazing.

My Logan/Rowan

Rock the Band by Michelle A. Valentine

** 4 out of 5 Stars **

**WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD**

After Noel Falcon professed his love to the one girl who truly holds his heart in the palm of her hand, he decides to try his damndest to keep Lane Vance in his life forever this time. There’s no way he’ll let her slip through his fingers again without a fight.

The instant they are together Noel begins to plot a way to ask his headstrong lady-love to be his wife, but every attempt to pop the question is foiled by a string of mishaps that prevents him from the perfect moment to get the job done before he goes back on tour with Black Falcon.

Distance is a bigger challenge than Noel expects, and the one-eyed beast of jealous raises its ugly head when Lane takes on a job working on an ad campaign for Embrace the Darkness. With Striker—a man that’s made it clear in the past he’s very interested in more then her business sense—lurking around her constantly, Noel wants to claim Lane now, more than ever.

Rock the Band is the novella that follows Rock the Heart.  It is a continuation of Noel and Lane's story told completely from Noel's point of view.  It is super short.  I enjoyed it but I feel like it could have been an epilogue to Rock the band instead of a whole other book.  I'm not complaining though because it was more of Noel.

The book picks up where Rock the Heart ends.  Within the first few pages, Noel decides that he needs to make their relationship permanent and he begins planning how to propose and when.  He tired it several times but something either happens or he just can't make the words come out.

Noel and Lane head to his house for a week before they resume the tour.  It's a much needed break and some much needed alone time.  We get to see Noel's sweet side and how much he really does love her.

Never in my life had I loved another person as much as Lanie Vance—I knew that now more than ever. I had to figure out a way to make her mine forever.

While at his house she gets extremely sick and he waits on her hand in foot.  He even sleeps in the recliner while she sleeps on the couch.  It was really sweet.

“You don’t have to suffer along with me.”
I raised an eyebrow at her ridiculous statement. “Where you go, I go. If you are in misery, then I’m going to be there to help you."
He might be the sweetest guy I've ever seen :)  He has a doctor come out and he gives her antibiotics and she gets better.

**HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD**

Things move forward and they leave the house and head back to the bus.  Lane gets a job working for Striker.  This guy is into her and has been since the first book.  With this new development, Noel is determined to get a ring on her finger. Lane's mother breaks her leg and Lane has to go home to take care of her.   After two weeks of being in Texas while Noel is still touring, he can't stand it any longer when Lane gets sick again.

Once he gets to Texas a few hours after she tells him she's sick he is the one who realizes what's going on with her.  (She's fine when he gets to her)  He informs her that because she was taking antibiotics that she might be pregnant.  There is no drama here, he is completely fine with it if she is pregnant, and it turns out that she is indeed pregnant.  He proposes but she says no.  She thinks he's just asking because of the baby.  (Yeah this girl is blind it seems)  He and his mom come up with an elaborate plan for him to propose on the dock where everything started when they were in high school.  He convinces her that he had planned to do it before and she says yes.

“Lanie Vance, I have loved you from the moment I saw you. So many times I've dreamed of making you my wife one day, and I think today is that day. I love you with every inch of me. I’m drawn to your fire and passion, and I don’t think I can ever be without it again. I want you everyday for the rest of my life. You and our baby. You two are my life. I've had this ring since the day we went shoe shopping with Kyle. Before you knew you were pregnant. This had always been my plan. Having a baby doesn't change how I feel about you. You are my heart, Lane, always have been. Will you marry me?”

Sweetest proposal ever!  I'm glad they finally have their HEA.  Like I said this is a good follow up to Rock the Heart so if you loved it then you will love this.  It is super short though and that was the reason I only gave it 4 stars.

Rock the Heart by Michelle A. Valentine

** 5 out of 5 Stars **

**HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD **

For the last four years, good girl Lane has regretted breaking up with Noel Falcon. She thought she was sensible when she told him his dreams of being a rock star would get him nowhere, but now that he's a rock god and her career is stagnant, she realizes just how wrong she was. When Noel hires the marketing company where Lane is an intern, she’s forced to see him again. If she wants to land her dream job as executive within the company, she has to win him over and secure his account. Too bad Noel is still pissed at her for breaking his heart.

When Lane’s company flies her to a Black Falcon concert to gain Noel’s attention, emotions run high the moment she sees him and realizes she’s far from over him. But Noel’s countless trysts with groupies and his cocky attitude make Lane believe he isn’t the same guy she once loved—now he seems to only want her body. Then after Lane discloses she needs him to procure a job, Noel proves he’s a changed man by forcing her to go on the road with him in order to get it.

My Review...
After Lane reluctantly takes Noel up on his offer, she becomes willing to do whatever it takes to keep him satisfied, even if it means succumbing to his seductive ways. Lane soon finds deception is a dangerous game and she’s not the only one playing.
I love rock star romances and this book was no exception.  This book had it all.  Great writing style.  I didn't know what to expect since this is my first book by this author.  I was really impressed.  This book had me from the very beginning.  I loved the story line.  It kind of reminded me of The Mighty Storm but since I love that book I was fine with it.  It had great romance, hot and steamy love scenes, great secondary character stories and I loved Noel.  The only problem I had with this book was, at times, Lane could really get on my nerves.

Lanie is an intern at an advertising company.  The company gets a client that happens to be a rock band in which the lead singer is no other than her high school sweetheart.  She broke up with him because she wanted him to give up his dreams of being a rock star and go to college with her.  She travels to his concert and I can't say he was happy to see her.

“This next song goes out to the girl who shredded my heart without hesitation back in high school. It’s called Ball Busting Bitch, and Lanie, this one’s for you.”

I fell in love with Noel at that moment.  He was still angry.  It's been 4 years since their break up and he's still not over.  The opposite of love isn't hate after all, it's indifference.  It doesn't take long to realize it's all a show.  Their reunion doesn't go well and she goes back to work expecting to be fired but he takes matters into his own hands and she ends up with a job plus going on tour with him.

She goes on his tour and demands that they maintain a business relationship.  There is a ton of sexual chemistry between them.  You know it's only going to be a matter of time before she gives into him, I mean how long can you sleep beside someone without giving into temptation.  Especially when you realize that you're still in love with him and he makes it known he's still in love with you.

“I’m still crazy over you. I know it’s been a while, but it feels like just yesterday when you walked out of my life. When you left me, I was so empty. There was this huge, gaping hole in my heart that no one could fill. I tried to get over you. I really did, but you were always there. Every woman I kissed was you.”

It's was only a matter of time but she finally gave in.  Everything seems to be going well.  He makes it known as does she that this isn't a one time thing and it's not just about sex.  He wants her back in every way, so they start down the relationship path again, trying to get it right this time.  That's all good but it's obvious something is going on and he's got a secret. He and his band mate can't stand each other when they were best friends months before.  Riff (the band mate) keeps trying to warn her about Noel. I figured it out pretty quickly.

** HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD **

There was a point in the book when some pictures of Noel and Lane went online of them together and he made a big deal about it and ran outside to use his phone.  She caught him arguing with someone on the phone.  I said then, "he's got a girlfriend."  I hoped I wasn't right but as these things go, sadly I was.

So it turns out that Noel got really drunk after a night of heavy partying and slept with Riff's girlfriend.  She turns out  to be pregnant with Noel's baby.  She finds out when Riff tells her when Noel has to leave for the night.  To make a long story short, she leaves only to find out that she can't because of her contract with her job.  He uses it to keep her around.

We find out no too long after the huge twist that the baby actually belongs to Noel's bodyguard and they blamed it on Noel so that the body guard could keep his job.  She still leaves but quits her job and goes back with the intentions of trying to talk him into taking her back.  The ending is sweet.  She doesn't have to talk him into anything.  He sees her and that's all it takes.

"This song goes out to the girl who is my everything. I’m not an easy man to love, and music is about the best way I know how to express my feelings to her."

I LOVED THE ENDING.  This was a great book.  I would recommend it to anyone who loves rock star romances, Thoughtless, Backstage Bass or The Mighty Storm.

My Noel/Lane

The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst

 ** 4 of 5 Stars **

** SPOILERS AHEAD **

The Marriage Bargain is a pretty cut and dried book.  It was good and sweet.  I enjoyed it.  The writing style was great and I loved the characters.  I wasn't expecting it to be funny but it actually was.  I pretty much knew how it was gonna go from the beginning.  I would recommend it for anyone looking for a short, and sweet read.

So Nick needs to find a wife and quickly.  He can't retain full ownership of the business that he has dreamed of owning unless her marries.  Alexa needs money to save her family's home and she see this marriage as her only way.  The agree to some terms and sign a contract.

1.  It will last 1 year and they will walk away
2.  No family functions
3.  No pets
4.  Must be able to trust each other
5.  No sex...between them or with anyone outside the marriage will it's in effect.

This is a strictly business arrangement   He isn't looking for love, a family, or a relationship.  She is his sister's best friend.  The deal seems perfect.  They were pretty much all over each other on their wedding night and I could see where it was headed.  Within weeks they were in bed together.  It took them 5 months and they were both madly in love with each other...of course they refused to believe it.

**SPOILER AHEAD**

Alexa finds out that she is pregnant.  Nick assumes she did it on purpose and she leaves.  He, being a man, over-reacted and then had an epiphany   In the end he accepts that she really does love him and that he loves her.  He tells her he loves her, and that he does want her and the baby forever.  It has a sweet HEA.

So like I said...cut and dried.  No twists and turns.  The pregnancy wasn't even really a surprise.  I rated it 4 stars simply because I prefer a book with a little more "meat" I guess you could say.  I liked the story don't get me wrong but it was short and it just didn't veer from course a lot.

My Nick/Alexa

Up to Me by M. Leighton

** 5 Mind Blowing/ Amazing/ OMG Stars of 5 **

Never in my mind did I think M. Leighton could write a sequel to Down to You that would be as good.  I.WAS.WRONG!  This book is was amazing!  I have spent 2 days doing nothing but reading these 2 books.  I love this series.  I love Cash Davenport!

Ok so this book leaves off right where Down to You ends.  Marissa and Cash/Nash have broken up.  Olivia is at his house and working in his club.  Danger comes up pretty quick.  Somehow the mob has figured out that he has the books.  Marissa is kidnapped from her apartment when it should have been Olivia.  They go through trying to find out who is behind it, getting her back and keeping Olivia safe.

Cash won't admit that he loves Olivia at first.  She is still trying to get past the fact that he's a bad boy.  She still believes that he is gonna hurt her.  I really wish she would just let this go.  It's obvious that it's different with her if she'd just open her eyes.  He would literally give his life to keep her safe.

“I can tell you how. This isn't about Marissa. It never was. It’s about you. Keeping you safe. I’m not in love with her. I’m in love with you. Can’t you understand that I don’t want to live without you? That I can’t live without you? What the hell would I do if something happened to you? I couldn't let you come here with her by yourself. I couldn't take the risk. I’ll never take the risk if the risk is losing you. Never. Why can’t you understand that?”

We find out pretty early on that Nash is still alive.  He comes to help Cash but he's very angry.  I didn't particularly like him in this book.  He judgmental and arrogant   He doesn't care what happens to the people in Cash's life and he'll do anything to get his revenge.

Olivia is kidnapped while Cash is exchanging the books.  He and Gaven (Cash's best friend) go in and save her.  I really like Gaven.  I think I would like a book about him.  He's loyal to Cash and because of that loyalty he is loyal to Olivia.

This book is the end of the story for Cash and Olivia and it ends well.  I am looking forward to more books in the future!  I was already a fan of M. Leighton but now I love her even more!  I put off and put off reading these books and I don't know why!  This book was just as good as the first and I would recommend it to anyone!  Read this series!

Down to You by M. Leighton

** 5 OMG/In Love/ Amazing/ Crazy Stars of 5 **

**WARNING:  HUGH SPOILERS AHEAD **

Gah…where do I start?  This book was AWESOME!  The twist alone deserves and extra star!  Amazing writing, amazing characters, amazing story, and amazing twist.  I can not wait to start the next book!
So Olivia falls for two different men…twins!  She has feelings for both.  She meets Cash in his club and thinking he’s a stripper for her friend’s bachelorette party starts to strip him.  She gets his shirt off before she realizes he’s not the stripper.  Nash is Olivia’s cousin’s boyfriend.  Cash is the bad boy with the motorcycle and tattoos.  He’s everything she has sworn to stay away from and everything she can’t stay away from.  Nash is the perfect boyfriend, rich, talented, and safe.  He’s everything she wants but can’t have.

There is a lot of sex in this book and it’s hot.  She is with Nash in his office, then one of them in her bed, then Cash everywhere else.  She sleeps with one in her bed and doesn’t even know which brother it is.  She wants them both but in the end she knows it will end up being Cash because she’s drawn to the bad boy.
There is a twist that comes and I never saw it coming.  I mean I knew something wasn’t right but I couldn’t put my finger on it.  It blew me away.  I had to stop reading and just take it in for a minute.

**HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD**

She spends the weekend with Cash at her father’s house.  They get wrapped up in each other and at the end of the weekend she comes home.  What does she do?  She calls Nash and he comes running.  She literally throws herself at him.  When he pushes her back he looks hurt and she can’t understand why.  Eventually she sends Nash home when it becomes obvious Cash is the one she wants.  He just smiles and leaves and doesn’t look back.  You do find out during that conversation that it was Nash that she slept with.  This threw me off.  I couldn’t understand why he was hurt that she threw herself at him.  Then I got the surprise of my life.

It turns out that Cash…is Nash.  Yes you read right.  They are one in the same…one person.  Cash’s brother and mother were killed in a boating accident and Cash has spent 7 years pretending to be both brothers so that his dad didn’t get a 2 murder charges since the police think he killed them.

Olivia leaves and won’t talk to him for awhile but eventually they have it out and he tells her that he is giving up his “Nash” side, broke up with his girlfriend, and he’s just Cash.  He only wants her, not to help him or to use her.  He just wants  to be with her.  He won’t put a name on the emotion but he’s head over heels in love with her and she loves him back.  At the end of the book she packs her bags and goes to his place where he’s waiting at the door for her.

I can not wait for the next book.  I’m starting as soon as I finish this review!  I would recommend this book to anyone!  Read it!! Now!

“I pull away to speak, but he puts his finger over my lips. "Shhh, just let me love you, okay? Don't think. Just feel.”

You’ve never ridden a motorcycle before?”
“Nope.”
“What kind of bad-boy girlfriend are you?” I ask in mock dismay.
“Evidently a terrible one.”
I swing onto the bike and grab my only helmet. “Nah, you just haven’t met the right bad-boy.”

“But you don’t get social with your employees,” I remind him quietly.
“I’ll make an exception for you.” His face is getting close and closer. Slowly. A centimeter at a time.
“But it’s your rule.”
“I’ll break it for you,” he whispers.
“No, don’t do that,” I say breathlessly.
“Fine, then you’re fired,” he says just as his lips meet mine.

Lush by Lauren Dane

* 4 Stars out of 5 **

Beautiful tattooed rock star with a big heart...what's not to love?!  But then you add in the factor that he's a drummer!!  Swoon worthy!

This was a good book.  I enjoyed it though it could get a little long in places.  It wasn't something that I couldn't put down but I did like the plot and the characters.  I loved the writing style but then I like a lot of Lauren Dane's books.  One thing that was different for me was that I started this series with this book.  I spent a lot of time wanting to read about Cal and Jules and their story so I'm probably gonna read that one next.  This book was funny.  I loved Mary's parents and Damien's brothers.

“I’m so full. Like to-the-brim, I-need-to-unbutton-my-jeans-and-take-a-nap full.”

So Mary owns her own food business.  She's a caterer and she holds a supper club a few times a month.  She's smart and witty.  She has a strong love for her family and friends and she is very loyal to them.  One thing I didn't like about her was the way she treated them when they were trying to protect her.  She could be just plain ugly to them at times.

Damien (love the name!) is a drummer for a band.  He's the typical rock star.  He has tattoos and his nipple is pierced.  He once loved the lifestyle as well but has grown tired of it.  He loves his family and is very close to his brothers.  He lives on a farm when he isn't own the road.

Together they make an explosive pair.  He likes it that she doesn't just bow down to him and she isn't just after his money.  They met at her best friend's wedding rehearsal.  They begin a series of nights together over a couple of months.  She tells herself that it's just fun and she can walk away at any time.  It never crosses her mind that it's so much more than that.  He knew from the moment he met her that it was different with her.  He realizes he's in love with her long before she does.  He begins to push for more and she's resistant at first but eventually gives in.

There isn't a lot to spoil with this story.  It's pretty much boy meets girl and they fall for each other.  Because he's a rock star they have issues with the press.  The only major issue is a picture that surfaces of him with another woman (an ex) at a party in New York.  She sees the picture and takes off, blocks his number and refuses to see him.  I don't know what she thought he would do but it didn't seem to cross her mind that he would hop on a plane and come after her.  It should have considering he already came and went as he pleased.  He explains that it wasn't as it looked and of course she forgives him.  He ends up proposing during a show at the end.

It was a good book and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves rock stars, tattoos, an easy HEA...and demon pigs ;)

This is my Damien/Mary

Beauty in the Breakdown by Natalie Baird

** 1 STAR OF 5 **

I’m going to try and review this book.  Try being the word here.  I really don’t even know what to say.  There aren’t really any spoilers.  Wow…I’m speechless and not in a good way.  This book gave me whiplash…seriously.  I wasn’t happen with the way the book was written.  I never connected with either character.  Let me try to break it down.

Jackson is a rock star.  He’s good looking and knows it.  Tattoos and the works.  Black hair, built.  You name it and he’s got it.  He’s got some emotional baggage that I’m not even gonna get into.  Apparently he feels he has to make something of himself because his mother died during childbirth.  He treats Alexa like crap.

Alexa is a music journalist.  She’s naive and thinks rather highly of herself in my opinion.  She lets Jackson treat her badly and keeps running back for more.  She falls in love so quickly that it’s just not believable even by a romance book’s standards.  If he had treated me the way he treated her.  I would have had my butt on a plane headed home…end of story.

They meet in a bar and he wants her to write a story about what he’s really like (though my opinion of him hasn’t really changed.  I just don’t like him.)  They hang out before they leave for his European tour and she gets trashed to the point of lying in a coat closet at a club singing songs by Madonna.  Keep in mind, this is only the second time she’s met him.  She sets up rules about no advances and not getting hurt on the ride to the club but it all over him on the way back.  He doesn’t sleep with her because she’s drunk and I have to give him credit for that.

This book started out ok.  I was interested in the beginning.  I still am, only in that “train wreck…can’t turn away” way.  Once they make it to London, he continues to treat her badly or just flat out ignore her.  I don’t even see what the point in having her there is honestly.  His band mate holds her down on the couch and she’s into it.  (It started out playful but then turned into sexual with this guy) All of a sudden Jackson is there and screaming at the guy and her because he’s mad.  WHAT?!  I didn’t even think he liked her at that point!  Why would he be mad?

She catches him off guard at the hotel and he ends up telling her that he is interested in her and they sleep together.  The sex scene was ok, nothing outrageously sexy, but ok.  I just can’t get over how hot and cold these two are with each other.  How can you pretend to hate someone and treat them like a groupie and the next minute you’re telling them soul searching secrets and making love?  It just doesn’t make sense to me.

My body dissolved into a collection of blissfully light cells, transported by this man’s touch, freed by his love.

What love?  He hasn’t even acted like he loved her or hasn’t even told her he loves her?

Anyway, after their roll in the sheets his ex-girlfriend shows up.  Everything begins to go south and when she asks Jackson for a minute alone and he agrees, Alexa leaves the hotel room.  His ex has no intention of letting Alexa take the position of girlfriend and Jackson doesn’t seem to have a back bone so he just allows it. On the plane to their next stop Alexa takes him to the bedroom for an interview.  He explains why he’s allowing his ex to be there.  I hate to admit it but I actually do feel a little sorry for him.  The man still needs to grow a pair and send this woman packing though.  At this point he does seem to actually care for Alexa but he will ruin it if he doesn’t fix this problem and soon.  His ex is CRAZY!  Like insane crazy.  The book drags on and she leaves when he won’t get rid of her.  Finally he hears a conversation between Alexa and his ex and kicks her to the curb.

They finally tell each other they love each other and the books end with us finding out she is moving in with him.  That’s it.

I’m sorry but this book just didn’t do it for me.  I feel like I wasted my time when I could have been reading
something else.  I hate to say that I hate to give negative reviews but that’s just the way I feel.  I’m gonna give it 1 star simply because I know the author put a lot of work into it.

Here are my Jackson/Alexa

Quotes:

"God, Alexa.  Is your mind permanently stuck in the gutter?"
"Yes," I responded, "Yes, I fear it might be."

“Alexa. I’m so glad that you’ve stumbled into my life. I’ve never met another woman like you, and I don’t suppose I ever will. And to continue our conversation from earlier this afternoon...I love you too.

Music of the Heart by Katie Ashley

** 6 UNBELIEVABLE/OMG/HEART BREAKING/ EMOTIONAL STARS!!!**

Oh.My.God…I don’t even know where to start.  My brain is fried, my eyes refuse to stop watering, I need a nerve pill, and I can’t stop smiling.  I’m pretty sure my husband thinks I’m nuts.  I've been through every emotion possible today.  Hands down, this book deserves 6 stars.  I've never rated over a five but this one deserves another one because of the music!

Let me say this first…THE MUSIC MAKES THIS BOOK!!!  The book is phenomenal without the music but the music, oh wow.  I stopped reading and listened to every song.

I know I’m all about spoilers, and they will be here but I just need to rave and rave about Katie Ashley and Music of the Heart.  Amazing, amazing job!  I am officially blown away!

Here is the PLAYLIST...I suggest downloading it and listening while you read!
Someone Like You-Adele
Tears of Heaven-Eric Clapton
In Loving Memory-Alter Bridge
Don’t You Wanna Stay-Kelly Clarkson/Jason Aldean
If I Die Young-The Band Perry
Angel-AeroSmith
Angel Band-The Stanley Brothers
Beam Me Up-Pink
Great Escape-Pink
I Need You-Tim McGraw/Faith Hill
This isn't all of them...just the ones I listened to but  there are others referenced in the book.

OK so this is the story of a rock star named Jake and a singer named Abby aka Angel.   Abby is trying to find her brother’s tour bus and ends up on the wrong bus and then accidentally falls in Jake’s bed.  Thinking she’s a groupie, he tries to seduce her and she knees him in a rather sensitive place.  They don’t get off to a great start at all.  He thinks she’s a sheltered, pampered princess.  She thinks he’s an egotistical, womanizing, man whore.  This leads to a bet…yes a bet.  He bets her she can’t last a week on Runaway Train’s tour bus (Jake’s band) and out of spite she decides she will prove him wrong come hell or high water.  They are both attracted to each other but refuse to admit it.

During dinner the first night another bet is made and then she proceeds to do a rather naughty version of Like a Virgin to prove a point.  It was really funny.  He admits that he would like to get to know her better and she agrees.  He then proceeds to a supply closet with a waitress (I wanted to throw my kindle).  Anyway, the book moves on and he treats her horribly throughout a lot of the first half of the book.  He has a groupie named Bree (this is the girl he thought she was in the beginning) and he even goes to the point to take her on the bus and have sex with her while Abby listens from the other room.  Joke’s on him though when he accidentally yells Abby’s name at the end of it.  I laughed so hard at this.
One thing that needs to be noted early on is that Jake’s mother has cancer and she’s only been given several months to live.  This is a very huge part of the book.  Jake and Abby’s relationship progresses and they grow closer, splitting up for a few pages then they reunite.

At about 80% Bree shows up at Jake’s door and he turns her away (He’s head over hills for Abby at this point).  Later that night, Bree attacks Abby in the parking lot of the band’s show almost killing her.  She sure has a lot of rage for a groupie.  She literally almost beats her to death.  Abby ends up in the hospital and then has to recuperate at Jake’s ranch.  He has a lot of guilt over her beating and it causes some problems but they move past it.  Once Abby has healed she goes back on tour with her brothers while Jake stays home with his sick mother.

AJ, a band mate of Jake’s, calls her and asks her to come and she does.  Jake is not very inviting when she arrives at the ranch.  He says some terrible things to her.  Horrible things.  I cried and cringed…cried because he was hurting.  She slaps him in the face and then runs out.  Before she can get down the drive way, he runs after her.  On his knees, he begs for her forgiveness.  He explains why he said it, and that he didn't mean any of it, and then begs her not to leave him.

“She’s going to leave me. Please say you’ll stay—even though I don’t deserve you.”
(Broke my heart!!! I cried for at least 20 minutes)

After they smooth everything over he takes her to see his mom.  I continued to cry for another 30 minutes because of this scene.  His mom tells him he’s got to let her go and the conversation broke my heart.
Anyway, there is a happy ending.  He proposes and she accepts of course.  Honestly by the end of the book I didn't care if he proposed or not.  I just wanted them together and I wanted him to be ok.  I have NEVER hurt for a character the way I did for him.  Once again, an amazing book!

Here are my Jake/Abby…

Rock Me by Cherrie Lynn

**5 Fantastic/Amazing/Mind Blowing Stars of 5**

This book was H.O.T!!  Wow, I didn't know what I was getting myself into.  I met Brian in Unleashed but I have to admit I didn't like him.  Because of that I almost didn't read this book.  I’m glad I did.  The writing was amazing, the connection between Brian and Candace was amazing, and the sex was HOT!!

Brian is a tattoo artist who owns his own shop.  He’s got tattoos all over him, he’s pierced…everywhere;) He has hang ups about his image.  People don’t accept him and it’s never really been an issue what other’s thought until Candace.  He likes that she doesn't care about the tattoo, that she actually likes them. He’s edgy, dark, but a good and honest guy who falls in love before he even realizes it has happened.

Candace has led a sheltered life. She’s a virgin. Her parents are horrible people who keep her under lock and key, determine her path in life, who she dates, and threaten to take it all away if she doesn’t abide by their rules.  She was looking for a way to rebel when she steps into Brian’s tattoo parlor.  She gets more than she bargained for!

This relationship isn’t easy.  She tries to hide it from her parents (she’s scared of her mother) and Brian doesn’t deal with it well.  Her parents know him because he dated Candace’s cousin Michelle for a year.

“But I’d rather look back and regret something I did when I was young and crazy, than look back and regret something I never had the courage to do, and realize it’s too late.”

Candace is looking for a way to rebel from her parents on her birthday so she decides to get a tattoo.  She knows Brian from her cousin Michelle so she goes to his tattoo parlor to get one.  The entire time he is working on it she is about to come off the table.  She wants him so bad it hurts but he’s completely professional.  When she leaves the tattoo parlor she, on a whim, gives him her number “just because” and he actually keeps it which is something he never does.

A few days later she is out with her friends and he calls her.  He’s in the movie store they are about to go into and he sees her so he calls.  She makes a complete fool of herself and he sees the whole thing.  It’s a pretty funny part of the book.  She walks over and they talk.  They decide to watch a movie at her place.  As the movie goes on they both want each other but neither is making a move. They fall asleep and when they wake up in the middle of the night things change.  They start messing around (he picks her up and she wraps her legs around him.  He carries her to her room.  This is HOT…oh the image I have in my head!)  Once in there, he figures out pretty quick that she’s a virgin and he refuses to go further.  Knowing he’s hurt her, he pleasures her and then she returns the favor. He doesn’t leave afterwards because she wants him to stay.

After the perfect night, her mom shows up the following morning.  She tells him he’s got to leave and he gets extremely mad and stalks away.  He has no intention of returning.  He’s got issues with they way others see him.  He can’t stand the thought that she might be ashamed of him.  She tells her mother about him as they leave the apartment and it doesn’t go well.

After a she stalks him to a bar, then after a heavy make out session, she tells him she can’t see him anymore and he leaves angry.  She’s messed up and he’s angry but they don’t try to work it out, they just stay away from each other.  There seems to be a communication problem with them a lot of the time but.  After some time has passed and all of her family, including Michelle, knows who she is dating, she runs into him at a store.  It’s the day of her cousin’s wedding.  He’s about to take off with his buddies to try and forget her but instead talks her into going with him not knowing she’s going to blow of the wedding to do it.  She agrees but they are just calling it hanging out.

Their plan had been not to call this a date, but God, he wanted to. He wanted to run straight to her side, wrap his arm around her shoulders and introduce her to his friends as his. His date, his woman, his girlfriend…hell, whatever title she would allow him to put on her.

I felt for him.  It’s so obvious he loves her, and she loves him.  She just can’t seem to get over the issues with her family.  After a very funny and embarrassing conversation with his friends they head to a concert and they proceed to do some very dirty things standing in the middle of the crowd (it was hot!).  Knowing where it’s headed, they change their sleeping arrangements and head to a hotel.  Her virginity is no more once they leave the next morning.  Speaking of leaving, she’s got one heck of a mess to clean up when she gets home.  Screaming in sues, punches are thrown, tattoo shops are smashed and torn apart, Brian is charged with assault, and they break up…again.  Fast forward to Maci, her best friend, witnessing the parlor being vandalized and she sees him again but she leaves him again.

At the end he goes and talks to her parents.  The charges are dropped and her parents ask her to come to dinner to meet someone.  She agrees only to dinner and plans to ignore the guy her parents are trying to set her up with.  The guy turns out to be Brian and they make up.  The book ends with him piercing her belly button.

Just so everyone knows…there is a novella out “Light me Up” that is the epilogue to Rock me.  It’s short but a good ending to their romance.

This is one of my FAVORITE books.  I’ve read it so many times!  I would recommend it to anyone who loves pierced, tattooed bad boys.

True Love Story by Willow Aster

**5 BRILLIANT, AMAZING, EMOTIONAL STARS out of 5!!!

**WARNING!!  MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!**

Oh wow what a story!  I was completely blown away!  I happened upon this story when I was going through my TBR list on my kindle.  It looked promising so I dove right in.  I was hooked on page one and it wouldn't release me until the very last sentence.  It had everything, amazing writing style, characters that I love/hate, great side stories, intense story plot. You name it and it was there! It took me on an emotional roller coaster ride and refused to let me go. This book isn't for the faint at heart and it leaves you guessing. I was getting ready to throw my kindle at the 97% mark! I knew what would happen but I was scared there for a few minutes.

It has been a year, two months, and seventeen days since I last saw him. Two years, ten months, and five days since he broke my heart—well, since I knew that he had broken my heart. Technically, he began breaking my heart the moment I met him, five years, eleven months, and one day ago…Ian Sterling is oblivious to the fact that our lives are going to crash in… five, four, three, two…

This book starts in the present, then moves to the past and stays there until we get to the end.  This was hard for me because the romantic in me demanded that I flip to the back and see where their story ended.  I gritted my teeth and read on and I wasn't disappointed.

Ian is a rock star.  He spends his life traveling and doesn't want a relationship.  The first time he meets Sparrow he knows things are about to change.  From that moment on he wants to know her but he isn't willing to give up his life.  They begin a 5 year on and off romance.  The meet at a mutual family friend’s dinner.  They openly talk and flirt in front of her boyfriend and before we know it that relationship is over.

She moves to New York with her best friend and doesn't speak to him again until their families vacation together for the holidays.  They share their first kiss her and their first date.  Then once again it’s months before they see each other again.  Honestly it’s the perfect relationship.  He sees her when he’s in town but they aren't together, together if you know what I mean.

She meets another famous guy named Asher.  This guy wants her but she just doesn't see it like that.  They become friends and Ian gets wind of it.  He doesn't tell her it bothers him until later on but nothing’s really done about it at the time.  I hated Asher.  I could see him for what he was.  To make a long story short Asher takes her out one night and she gets drunk.  He takes advantage of the situation and has sex with her once she passes out.  She was a virgin so the emotions she experiences were off the charts.  I felt horrible for her.  Once Ian finds out he almost kills him.  He beats him within an inch of his life and puts him in the hospital.  All this is happening over a period of time.

At some point they decide to give it a go and actually start a relationship.  Its long distance but he makes it a point to see her as often as he can.  They fall in love (pretty sure they were already there) the first time they make love is on a house boat that he takes her to for a little vacation.  They spend several days just wrapped up in each other and everything is perfect.  He finally proposes and she accepts.  I was in heaven at this point.  I thought this was going to be the perfect love story.  WRONG!!

***MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!***

At the 75% mark everything starts falling apart.  I actually cried.  Sparrow has a dream about Ian and Lilah.  (Lilah is the wife of his cousin.  His cousin is the mutual friend they met through.)  In this dream she sees him having an affair.  She wakes up and calls him, mostly to just brush the dream off until she instantly knows it’s real so she asks him.

An island of single words strewn together that is going to ruin my entire life. I already know, without him saying a thing, that this will change everything. “What do you want to know?” he whispers. “I want to know everything. Start from the beginning.”  “Are you having an affair with her?” “No,” he says. “Have you had an affair with her?” He pauses and his voice cracks as he says, “Yes.”

My world fell out from under me.  It turns out he has been sleeping with this woman since he and Sparrow began dating, the last time being right after they were engaged.  He did stop the affair when he realized he was going to screw up the best thing that had ever happened to him.  At this point it’s way too late though.  She leaves him and they are apart for so long.  He doesn't give up though.  He writes her letters almost every day for a year.  Once she’s finally had enough and her heart can’t handle anymore she writes him back and tells him she can’t handle it anymore so he sends one more letter 4 months later.  He tells her that he’ll always love her but he is going to move on and let her live her life.  He even started dating someone.  Throughout all this she hates the letters but doesn't want them to stop either.  She can’t get over him.  He’s all she thinks about but she can’t go back to him.  The night before she runs into him in the airport she is crying in bed looking at old photos of them together.

Fast forward to the present.  At the beginning of the book where they meet up again, they are both about to board the same flight.  They end up being seated in the seats next to each other and staying at the same hotel.  He sees it as a sign and tells her so.  (At this point I was ready for her to forgive him.  Cheating or no, any man who went to the point of getting her back that he had deserves a second chance.)  To make a long story short, she is more open to him now and they have dinner followed by mind blowing sex and hours and hours of talking following.  She still hasn't made a decision on taking him back but you know its coming.  It’s the end of the book here and I think there was like 2% left and I was scared.

“Tell me you don’t still love me, Sparrow, and I won’t touch you. Tell me you don’t still need me, that your body doesn't still ache for mine. Tell me,”
“ Aren't you worn out from running?”
“I don’t want to live without you another day. I’m begging you for another chance.  Please.”

Yeah I was bawling at this point.  My heart was completely broken and I was pretty sure I wasn't ever going to be the same.  I kept thinking…put that poor man out of his misery!  You know you love him.  He screwed up, he knows it and it won’t happen again.  TAKE HIM BACK!!!
At her best friend’s wedding she finally FINALLY realizes he’s what she wants.  There is an epilogue following.  She’s married to him.  She married him 3 months after her friend’s wedding and they are living on his tour bus.  At the very end she tells him she’s pregnant and he cries :’)
The only thing I wanted from this book that I didn't get was at the end.  I feel like there should be another book.  I wanted to see what their life is like when they are finally able to be together all the time since they spent most of their relationship apart.

Way to go Willow Aster!  Amazing book and I look forward to many many others from this author!
